Copper. I can’t get enough of this color or this metal. In fact, I’m redecorating my kitchen in a white, aqua, copper scheme and will post before and after photos as a blog post soon. I’m enthralled with the warmth of copper and it’s versatility. The simple fact that it patinas to such fantastic green/blue/cream/white shades is what makes this metal so utterly delightful. And lets face it, copper really is timeless.

Here are a few of my favorite kitchen accessories for this 1st edition of “Copped Hue’d Mondays”. Enjoy. I know I will.

I found this delightful spoon at this fantastic Etsy Store: Ric Rac and Buttons I don’t know what it is about vintage kitchen pieces, but I’m in love. Especially vintage copper, tin and enamelware pieces. There’s such a connection with farming and antiques. Am I the only one that thinks this?

Measuring spoons are my weakness. I’d have 25 different sets of them if I gave into this weakness on every occasion. This set, however, may end up in my collection soon. This set of spoons was found at this Etsy shop: Kim’s Cottage

Chargers. I love adding these to my place settings. I use plain white china when I set my table, so I allow all the accessories to really play up the simplicity of the china. These chargers are an excellent way to accomplish lots of elegance and pizzaz. I found this style of charger at Pottery Barn.

I really did save the best for last. I love, love LOVE this lamp and shade. I can think of so many uses for it and places in the home that it will add some quiet elegance. You can see a few other examples of this style of lamp over at Stubenrauch Designs.

Have a Mini Skirt of a Day!

Okay, so I’m a closet interior decorator/designer. Really. I am! Who isn’t though? I’m working on updating my kitchen. It’s been taupe and white for…well…forever. I’m not going to do anything crazy because it’s such a small space, but I’m going to go a little wild. Robbins Egg Blue, Retro Red and Copper. I know, I know. Sounds crazy. But I’m very sure the effect will be beautiful, and I can build off of the color scheme I already have in the kitchen at this time. Always best to start that way before jumping head first into a project. That’s my thought anyway.

So for starters, here’s the paint color I want to pain on one wall in a distressed worn paint technique.

Then, it’s onto a new sink. I love this hammered copper sink. It’s somewhat modern, but at the same time traditional and very cowboy’d, which as many of you know, my house is based on this style of decorating. I try to incorporate a mix of traditional modern and a lot of cowboy.

Now, we’ll add bin pulls. These are PERFECT!

And a fridge. I LOVE THIS! I found this fridge a here.

Let me introduce my friends (well it’s really me) “The Skirts”. The Skirts are a bit like a sorority, in the sense that we all come together to make this unique mess.  Me!

Almost Betty – Red Skirt. Almost Betty is my inner Betty Crocker. She’s basically bursting at the seams to bake, cook, fry, saute and generally be in the kitchen. This is the me that wears the apron.

Almost Martha – Green Skirt. Almost Martha is my inner Martha Stewart. She’s the green thumb, jack-of-all-trades, crafty gal who can do it all. At least I think I can

Almost Laura – Orange Skirt. Almost Laura is my inner Laura Ingalls Wilder. She’s my inner child, story teller, writer, thinker, player and the one with all the fun stuff.

Almost Jeanette – Brown Skirt. Almost Jeanette is my inner Jeannette Rankin. My inner politician, fighter, and “I want to help change the word” me. Military and Liberty!

Basically, that sums it up. I have ideas for other skirts, so we shall see what the future brings. For now, four is probably more than enough to unleash on all the innocents of mankind. Mixed in with all of these you’ll find flights of fancy and some hard-knock lessons.
